Curriculum Learning Zone™ curriculum is a combination of Cognitive Tutor® software and new materials developed at WestEd by experts in the field of mathematics education. These materials combine hands-on exercises with paper-pencil activities to give the student a deeper, lasting conceptual understanding of each mathematical idea. Students often struggle with algebra because they lack the prerequisites, have misunderstood the content or procedures, or because the complex material requires clearer development to ensure retention. Students may also require additional time for practice of algebraic reasoning and skills. Learning Zone researchers have identified and addressed specific content areas that most often become barriers to learning algebra. We have created targeted curriculum to help students better understand the content by providing learning experiences that reinforce, refresh, or re-teach these important concepts.
